Battery health, or State of Health (SoH), measures how much capacity an EV battery retains compared to when it was new. A battery at 80 percent health delivers roughly 80 percent of the original range. Degradation occurs naturally over time and charge cycles.
Battery health is one of the most important factors in used EV appraisal. Unlike engine condition, it requires a diagnostic tool or manufacturer report to measure accurately. Dealers acquiring used EVs should obtain a battery health report as part of the standard inspection process.
