Market Shortages

The automotive industry saw microchip and semiconductor shortages and supply chain issues during the pandemic that halted production across the board. Full-size vans took a hit in sales. Chevy Express saw a dip of 47.5%. And the Ram ProMaster experienced a decrease in sales of 14% between Q1 of 2021 and Q1 of 2022.2 However, Ford saw increases in sales in their electric vehicles, including the E-Transit cargo van, of 139% YOY in April of 2022.3

Toyota Sienna

Say hello to this hybrid minivan that gets 36 mpg in the city and on the highway. It offers standard 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, and keyless ignition in addition to Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa connectivity. The LE and XLE versions have eight seats, while all other versions have seven. Plus, you’ll find 33.5 cubic feet of cargo space (with seats in place). The 2023 Toyota Sienna is the 25th edition of this iconic minivan. The Toyota Sienna is ranked #1 on the Best Used Minivans list by iSeeCars8 which boasts vans that retain the most value, and are the safest and most reliable. The Sienna sold 20,061 units in Q1 of 2022.7

Ford Transit Connect

The Ford Transit Connect cargo van can help get almost any job done. Made in a few different configurations—short or long wheelbases and symmetrical rear doors or rear liftgate, the van also offers front-wheel drive and two engine options. And it can carry up to 1,570 pounds of cargo, with 127 cubic feet of cargo space. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine allows for 28 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg in the city while the 2.5-liter engine gives you 27 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city.10 You’ll also find pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and 16-inch steel wheels as standard. The Ford van also comes in a wagon version that can seat up to seven passengers.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van

This customizable full-size van from the luxury car brand boasts three different alternatives: passenger, crew, or cargo. It is the perfect van for work, touring, or a big family. The Sprinter can tow a maximum of 7,500 pounds11, comes with standard or high rooflines, and is available in standard or extended length. It also seats up to 15 passengers, features an infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen in the premium package, and the cargo model has up to 523.6 cubic feet of storage capacity. Plus, lane-keeping assist and blind spot monitoring are optional. The Sprinter offers two engine choices. Consumers can pick between a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 or a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine, both with 188 horsepower.

Ram ProMaster Cargo Van

The Ram ProMaster Cargo Van is ideal for hauling all your work-related needs. The van also comes in other configurations that include cutaway, chassis cab, crew van, and window van. The ProMaster offers a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 280 horsepower12, a 9-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive, and can carry up to 4,680 pounds. And, you’ll discover standard safety features such as driver attention monitoring and forward collision warning—as well as optional lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control. Amazon Alexa and Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity are also available. The cargo van comes with a standard push-button start, keyless entry, and spacious cargo hold. Chevrolet Express Passenger

The Chevrolet Express Passenger van is equipped with a high towing capacity and a standard 4.3-liter V-6 engine. The engine is also available in a 6.6-liter V-8 with 401 horsepower and a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder with 181 horsepower.13 With the V-8 engine, the van can tow up to 10,000 pounds and has a Communications Package available with Bluetooth capability and satellite radio. The Express seats 12, with up to 15 in the long-wheelbase model. The LT trim features remote keyless entry, a deluxe center console, and a lane departure warning. The van has up to 40.85 inches of headroom and up to 41.35 inches of legroom.13 And the van is offered in standard or extended wheelbase.
