Contracts in transit (CIT) are vehicle purchase contracts that have been signed but not yet funded by the financing institution. The dealer submits the contract package to the lender for review, and funding typically follows within one to three business days.
A healthy CIT balance reflects active sales volume, but an aged CIT balance signals funding delays or compliance issues. Dealers should track CIT closely, follow up on deals pending beyond the lender's standard funding window, and ensure all stips are cleared promptly.
