NMVTIS

NMVTIS is a federally mandated database that consolidates vehicle title and history information from all 50 states, insurance companies, and salvage yards. It is designed to prevent title fraud, odometer tampering, and the illegal transfer of stolen or salvaged vehicles across state lines.

Dealers are required to report certain vehicle information to NMVTIS and can query the database as part of their due diligence before acquiring used vehicles. Many vehicle history report providers pull NMVTIS data as part of their reports.
