Reconditioning, often called recon, is the set of processes a dealership uses to bring a used vehicle up to retail-ready condition. This includes mechanical inspection and repair, fluid services, tire replacement, dent and paint repair, full detailing, and any safety-related work.
Time in recon is dead time on the investment. Every day a vehicle spends in reconditioning is a day it is not generating revenue on the lot. High-performing used vehicle operations set recon time targets and measure them closely.
