Grace Barger is one of our amazing Vehicle Condition Inspectors. She's had a love for cars since hanging out at the track and watching the races in high school. Grace sat down with us and talked about her journey in the auto industry. Read on to learn more.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in South Jersey. About 15 minutes inland from the ocean so I spent a lot of time at the beach. I have a big family and we had a small farm with goats, ducks, chickens and a huge garden.
What is your current position?
I am a Vehicle Condition Inspector. I go out to the dealers to picture their cars and perform the condition report.
What do you enjoy about working at ACV?
I love being a part of a company that is growing; being able to see it all happening is awesome. Everyone is so open and accessible. It makes my job that much easier knowing there is a team behind me ready to help if I need it.
What was your journey to joining the automotive industry?
I’ve always loved cars. I used to go to the track with my friends in high school; they’d race their cars and we’d all hang out while they worked on them. Then when I graduated I worked for a bit selling Honda’s for a dealership in South Jersey.
What work were you doing prior to ACV Auctions?
I went to college for hotel management but I was working nights and every holiday. When I moved up north I was looking for a job with regular hours and I started working for Adesa. I was there 6 years.
What’s your dream car?
I think this is the toughest question so far because there are so many. My go to is usually the Audi R8 V10. I also love the classic coupe, like a 71 Karmann Ghia or a 69 Triumph TR6. Then there’s a 92-96 Honda Prelude. Whichever one though, it would have to be a manual transmission.
What are some things you do outside of work?
Outside of work I hang out with my husband and our 2 dogs. They are like our babies so we spoil them and take them to the park a lot. I also like music festivals and going swimming whether at the beach or a pool.
What’s an interesting fact that most people don’t know about you?
I was born in Egypt. My parents are missionaries so we spent a lot of time traveling around the world. I would like to continue traveling; there are a few places I haven’t been to yet.
