Arbitration: What is Purchase Protection+?

For a valid arbitration claim, Purchase Protection+ lets the buyer return the vehicle instead of repairing it. It also extends the buyer's arbitration window by ten calendar days.

If the buyer returns the vehicle, we refund the sale price, buy fee, and transportation costs. We do not reimburse storage, floor plan, or reconditioning fees.

The buyer can add Purchase Protection+ at checkout. If the buyer has already checked out, they can add it within 24 hours of winning the auction.

Purchase Protection+ and Extended Assurance cannot be combined.

Eligibility
The buyer can add Purchase Protection+ if the vehicle meets all of these conditions:

  • The vehicle was not sold with a red auction light.
  • The vehicle has no more than 175,000 miles.
  • The vehicle sold for at least $3,200 but less than $75,000.
  • The vehicle sold for no more than 110% of our estimated value.

Purchase Protection+ is also unavailable for the following vehicles, regardless of the conditions above:

  • Electric vehicles.
  • Heavy equipment.
  • Vehicles that are GVWR class 4 or higher.
  • Powersports vehicles, such as ATVs, snowmobiles, and jet skis.
  • Vehicles that we consider exotic, such as Bentley, Bugatti, McLaren, Lamborghini, and Ferrari.

Resolution
The buyer can return the vehicle only if the arbitration claim is valid and we have offered to cover part of the repair costs.

The buyer has two business days after we send the offer to decide whether to accept the payment or return the vehicle. The day after we send the offer is day one.

If the buyer does not respond by that deadline, we pay the offered amount and close the claim.
