Understanding Gate Pass Timelines

Learn about the timeframes for getting access to your gate passes on purchased units

At ACV, we’re committed to getting you access to your purchased unit as quickly, efficiently, and risk-free as possible. Your Gate Pass availability depends on a few key factors related to how your dealership is set up and how/when payment is made. Here's what you need to know:

🕐 Standard Gate Pass Timing

1-Day Hold
If your dealership has an AuctionACCESS ID on file, your Gate Pass will be available the day after payment is selected by 10:00 am EST.

5-Day Hold
If your dealership does not have an AuctionACCESS ID on file, Gate Passes will be held for 5 days after payment.

👉 To avoid delays, we strongly recommend providing your AuctionACCESS ID if you haven’t already. Reach out to service@acvauctions.com to get this set up!

⚡ Same-Day Gate Pass Eligibility

We’re proud to offer same-day Gate Passes when any of the following options are used at checkout:

  • ACV Transportation (note: we arrange concierge transportation for you; a gate pass will not be sent to you on units where ACV Transport is selected)
  • ACV Capital
  • ACV Advantage
  • NextGear

These solutions help us streamline the release process while mitigating risk. Gate Passes will be issued the same day you check out. Please note: At this time, we cannot expedite Gate Passes outside of these options.

🚫 Returned Payments

If a payment is returned due to insufficient funds (NSF), Gate Passes will be subject to a 5-day hold for a period of 14 calendar days after the issue is resolved and the account is reactivated.

Example: If a dealer resolves an NSF issue on June 19, all subsequent purchases will be placed on a 5-day Gate Pass hold through July 3.

Important: If the dealer chooses one of the same-day Gate Pass options listed above (ACV Transportation, ACV Capital, ACV Advantage, or NextGear), the Gate Pass will still be released same-day—even during the 14-day NSF hold period.

🚨 Checkout Must Be Completed First

ACV cannot release Gate Passes for units that have not been checked out. To ensure timely release and maintain arbitration eligibility, it’s important to complete checkout as soon as possible after winning a vehicle. To stay eligible for next-day Gate Pass processing, checkout must be completed before 12:00 a.m. EST. Checkouts submitted after that time will be processed the following business day.

FAQs & Common Issues

Q: What if I already submitted payment but haven’t received my Gate Pass?
A: Confirm that we have your AuctionACCESS ID on file and check whether one of the eligible ACV services was used at checkout. Remember, if you haven’t selected ACV Transport, ACV Capital, or Advantage, the gate pass will not be sent until the following day before 10:00am EST.

Q: Where do I send my AuctionACCESS ID?
